The context

Orality is a strength, not a deficit

A large share of the transmission of knowledge, customary law, wisdom and values in Africa flows through speech, across generations. The "non-reader" is often a person rich with a language, a memory, a know-how — yet for whom the written interfaces of the administrative and digital world remain a barrier. UNESCO has made literacy for all a sustainable development goal. Voice can be the bridge.

Déblo Orality does not seek to "correct" the user. Our role is not to impose reading and writing on someone who already masters their language orally. Our role is to make the administrative, digital and institutional world accessible — without detour, without condescension, and without having to ask a relative who can read.

Your questions

Does Déblo replace reading learning?
No. Déblo is an assistant, not a replacement. If the user wishes to learn to read, Déblo can support that learning (read-aloud, listening exercises, practice). But we never force literacy as a precondition for use.
Which languages does it understand?
French and English in audio output. In input, Déblo understands mixed registers: Nouchi, Wolof, Dioula, Lingala, Pidgin, Hausa, Swahili, with words borrowed within the sentence. Native output in those languages is on our institutional roadmap 2027–2028 (DFI funding).
How much does it cost?
For this audience, the commercial model is being built with institutional partners. The goal is near-zero cost access for the end user, funded by public programs, NGOs or international donors.
Do you need a modern smartphone?
Not necessarily. The mobile Déblo version runs on Android and iOS. An optimized version for entry-level phones is on the roadmap (data-saving mode, compressed audio).
And privacy? Are my conversations private?
Yes. GDPR infrastructure (Hetzner Germany). Conversations are processed only to deliver the service. No resale, no targeted advertising. You keep control of your data.
How does Déblo read a paper I hold in my hand?
You take a photo (or Déblo guides you to take it via voice command). The OCR pipeline (Datalab then Mistral as fallback) extracts the text. Déblo reads it aloud, then explains the meaning — not just the words.
Can you work with our NGO or public program?
Yes, that's exactly our goal. Contact us via the partnership button. We co-build the first deployments with institutional partners committed to digital inclusion.
How is this different from other AI tools?
Three differences: (1) voice is the primary way of use, not an add-on; (2) Déblo understands mixed African cultural registers without correcting; (3) pricing is designed as an inclusive institutional service, not a premium individual subscription.
